interview: finish ticket

Finish Ticket is back after a two year hiatus to release their first single since 2015, “Dream Song.” We had the chance to talk to them about their new music and how they spent their time off.

How did you meet and form the band?

We met in high school and had a shared interest in similar music so we started playing together. Things quickly started to click and we knew we had something special.

What are each of your roles?

The roles have shifted since we became a 3 piece.  Brendan is still the main songwriter but we all take on different roles depending on what the song needs.

When did you know you wanted to pursue music as a career?

We all knew at a young age that we wanted to have a career in music.  We grew up going to concerts and making music so this has always been our goal.

What is your songwriting process like?

Brendan usually writes the song and brings it to the band then we all add our own tasty flavors to it.

What artists and albums have you been into lately?

Gabe has been very into Joey Bada$$.  Alex is into Lux Prima by Karen O and he is also on a Red Hot Chili Peppers kick.  Brendan is into Leon Bridges and Big Thief lately.

What have you been up to these past few years?

We have been working on new music, reorganizing our company and spending time enjoying life as much as we can.

You recently premiered a new song “Dream Song” on San Francisco’s ALT 105.3. Why did you choose “Dream Song” to be the first song released in 4 years?

Aaron from Alt 105.3 has always been a huge supporter and we showed him the songs and he was very excited/into Dream Song and wanted to premiere it so we went for it.

How would you describe the upcoming album?

A lot of new takes on classic Finish Ticket. We have all been through a lot of change during this time and I think that shows itself in the music.

Which song are you most excited to release?

Honestly not sure.  We are excited about all of them at the moment.

What is your favorite lyric you’ve ever written?

The song “Bring the Rain” as whole is a favorite.

Where do you find inspiration for new music?

We find inspiration in our daily lives and experiences and playing music with each other.

If you were a cover band, what band would you cover and what would you call yourselves?

We would be a Disturbed cover band and call ourselves Down with the Thiccness.

If you could collaborate with any artist or band, who would it be?

A lot come to mind.  Working with Phoenix would be awesome because of how intelligent they are with their artistic process and it seems like everything that goes into their songs has a real purpose other than just sounding good.

What is your biggest roadblock as artists?

Money is our biggest roadblock.  Everything we do for the band costs money and  we need to make money personally to keep the band going.  This is a common roadblock for most people, it is just amplified when you need money for your business and for your personal life.

Get ready for “Dream Song,” out this Friday, July 12th!
