new song saturday: cherry pit by luna li

Canadian artist Luna Li does it all. As a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer, each song she releases is an incredible work of art and her latest single “Cherry Pit” is no different. Each layer in this track creates a dreamlike soundscape–a staple of Luna Li’s spacey take on indie rock.

“Cherry Pit” takes inspiration from the sounds of dream pop and psych rock with the ethereal feel from the harp and Li’s vocals combining with the reverberated guitar solo and driving beat. According to her interview with PAPER magazine, the lyrics for “Cherry Pit” were inspired by her childhood vacation home in Muskoka and the feelings that arose when she learned that it was going to be sold. With lines like “Grow a little more, so you know a little more,” and “Forever isn’t real my love,” the song seems to serve as a reminder not to take things we care about for granted, and that we have to make the most out of what we have while we have it.

Each new release proves Luna Li’s amazing musicianship and creativity, and she is absolutely an artist to watch in the coming year.
