new song saturday: oxidate

Provo’s indie rock group Brother. released their latest single “Oxidate” yesterday. “Oxidate” is filled with 80s-inspired synth paired with smooth bass lines to create a chill but danceable track.

The single starts with a strong rhythm before the opening chord flows into singer Chuck Emery’s soft falsettoscreating a classic indie pop feel. The instrumentals are reminiscent of 2010s indie rock bands like Foster the People and Portugal the Man while still carrying an ethereal 80s theme throughout the track. Soft but still danceable, “Oxidate” is the perfect song for when you’re in need of groovy but emotional tunes as the soundtrack for dancing alone in your room.

Lyrically, “Oxidate” is all about a relationship that has gone bad—one that has been left out to rust and that is too late to save. The somber meaning behind the track contrasts with the overall bright and upbeat feeling of the music to create a beautiful juxtaposition.
