socal sounds: psychic barber

Psychic Barber is an alternative rock trio from Orange County that just celebrated their third anniversary as a band. The group blends alternative rock with blues and country influences, providing a breath of fresh air from the usual garage rock of the OC scene. They have played a variety of shows throughout Southern California including Nothing Fest in July.

The band’s first album Nothing Personal was released earlier this year, full of heavy guitar solos paired with singer Eli Spotts’ soulful voice. Their track from the album “The Heat” is their most popular song on Spotify with almost 70,000 streams. This song brings more of an edge compared to the rest of their discography and is reminiscent of artists like Gary Clark Jr. and The Black Keys.

Their most recent release is “Something You Can’t Run From,” a song about, quite literally, something you can’t run from. This song is much lighter than the songs from the album, with bouncy guitar riffs and soft vocal harmonies. However, it’s not a Psychic Barber song without a soulful guitar solo and this is no exception.

The group is getting ready to play the Observatory for The Grinns’ album release show on August 23rd. They will also be playing at the LA County Fair this September at the free Minor League Music Festival.
